The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed several infrastructure projects in Zamboanga del Norte, significantly improving road safety, flood mitigation, and transportation efficiency for residents and travelers in the province.

Rehabilitated 4-Lane Road Enhances Safety in Dipolog City
The DPWH Zamboanga del Norte 2nd District Engineering Office successfully rehabilitated a critical 4-lane segment along the Dipolog-Polanco-Piñan Junction Oroquieta Road in Barangay Gulayon, Dipolog City. The project, covering 2.415 lane kilometers, was completed on time with a P44.8-million budget under the General Appropriations Act (GAA) 2024.
This newly rehabilitated road not only provides a smoother and safer route for motorists from neighboring provinces but also reduces the risk of road accidents. To further enhance safety, traffic warning signages were installed as part of the project, ensuring a more secure travel experience for provincial travelers.
Flood Mitigation Structure Protects Sirawai Communities
The DPWH Zamboanga del Norte 4th District Engineering Office completed the first phase of a flood mitigation project along the Piacan River in Sirawai, Zamboanga del Norte. Funded under the GAA 2023 with an allocation of ₱39.2 million, the project includes a 292-meter flood mitigation structure featuring a 1-meter wide berm.
This structure serves as a protective barrier against floodwaters, safeguarding nearby residents and properties from debris and sediment carried by the river. While this marks the completion of Phase I, it establishes a foundation for future phases aimed at further enhancing flood protection in the area.
Timan Bridge Widening Facilitates Efficient Mobility
To address increasing traffic demands and enhance the movement of goods across the province, the DPWH Zamboanga del Norte 3rd District Engineering Office widened the Timan Bridge along the Sindangan-Liloy Road in Barangay Timan. The project, funded with P22 million from the GAA 2023, expanded the bridge to a width of 7 meters over its 19.05-lane meter length.
This improvement ensures smoother and safer transportation for commuters and facilitates the efficient delivery of goods, boosting the local economy.
Unified Efforts for Development
These projects demonstrate the DPWH’s commitment to improving the quality of life for residents and supporting economic growth in Zamboanga del Norte. By enhancing safety, mitigating risks, and improving connectivity, the government’s investments in public infrastructure pave the way for a more resilient and prosperous province.
