Camiguin, a serene island province in the Philippines known for its lush landscapes and vibrant marine life, recently opened its shores to international visitors on an extraordinary tropical escapade. On November 1, 2024, the Coral Geographer Expedition Cruise from Australia arrived in Camiguin, bringing 42 international travelers who were eager to explore the “Island Born of Fire.” The cruise stop marked Camiguin’s first international arrival of the year and the fifth since 2015, reflecting the island’s growing reputation as a top destination for tourists worldwide.

For these travelers, the day tour in Camiguin offered a blend of adventure, culture, and relaxation. The excursion began in Mambajao, the island’s main town, where visitors were welcomed at the bustling public market. Here, they sampled Camiguin’s renowned lanzones, celebrated as one of the sweetest varieties in the Philippines, and explored an array of local delicacies, experiencing firsthand the flavors of Filipino cuisine.

From the market, the tourists moved to the historic Chan Ancestral House, an architectural gem that speaks to Camiguin’s rich history and heritage. The house provided a glimpse into the island’s past, with its carefully preserved design and antique furnishings. Following this cultural immersion, the tour continued with a trip to the Walkway to the Old Volcano, a famous pilgrimage site with scenic views of Camiguin’s volcanic terrain.

An afternoon visit to the breathtaking Katibawasan Falls offered both stunning scenery and a refreshing escape from the tropical heat. Tucked in a verdant forest, the waterfall cascades 250 feet into a pool below, where tourists eagerly took a dip, feeling the cool mountain water and enjoying the lush surroundings.

As the day wore on, visitors were transported to the highlight of their Camiguin adventure: Mantigue Island. Just a short boat ride from the main island, this secluded paradise is celebrated for its powdery white sands and crystal-clear blue waters, making it a perfect spot for beachgoers and snorkelers alike. Mantigue’s vibrant coral reefs and diverse marine life enchanted snorkelers as they explored the pristine underwater world. Meanwhile, others relaxed along the shore, taking in the beauty of the tropical landscape and the tranquil ambiance.

As the sun set over Mantigue Island, casting a warm glow across the horizon, the travelers enjoyed a serene moment on the sand, marveling at the natural splendor around them. For many, the sunset experience on Mantigue’s shoreline became the defining memory of their day in Camiguin—a fitting conclusion to a day filled with cultural discovery, natural beauty, and moments of relaxation.

The Coral Geographer’s stop in Camiguin is part of its broader Philippine itinerary, which celebrates the country’s unique coastal destinations. The island’s remarkable biodiversity, captivating landscapes, and warm hospitality left a lasting impression on the international visitors, solidifying Camiguin as an essential destination for world travelers seeking an authentic, serene island experience.

This recent cruise visit is not only a milestone for Camiguin but also an invitation for global travelers to explore the enchanting beauty of the Philippines’ lesser-known islands. For Camiguin, this visit showcases the island’s allure, as it continues to gain recognition as a must-visit spot in the Philippines’ rich tapestry of travel destinations.
