Butuan City, Caraga Region – The captivating aroma of freshly brewed coffee fills the air as the Caraga Coffee Festival 2024 highlights its flagship event, the 4th Caraga Coffee Quality Competition. From November 25 to 28, the focus turns to the rich and bold flavors of Robusta coffee, a staple of the region’s agricultural pride, as the competition unfolds at Craft Coffee and Roastery, Baan 3.
This year’s competition is a testament to the unwavering dedication of Caraga’s coffee farmers, with 17 exceptional entries vying for recognition. These entries represent the hard work, skill, and innovation of coffee farmer groups throughout the region. Each submission will undergo a rigorous evaluation process, including green grading, roasting, and cupping, to determine which beans truly embody the essence of Caraga’s coffee heritage.
A Festival of Flavors and Opportunity
Running alongside the competition is the 2nd Caraga Coffee Festival, an initiative spearheaded by the Department of Agriculture (DA) Caraga in partnership with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Caraga. From November 23 to 29 at Robinsons Mall, this week-long celebration aims to bring together coffee lovers, producers, and entrepreneurs.
During the opening ceremony last Saturday, Dailinda Mamalis, Regional Coordinator of the DA’s High Value Crops Development Program, reaffirmed the agency’s support for Caraga’s coffee industry. “This festival is more than just a showcase. It’s a commitment to uplifting our hardworking farmers, empowering agripreneurs, and spotlighting Caraga as a growing hub for quality Robusta coffee,” she said.
