Barobo, Surigao del Sur—In a significant development underscoring law enforcement’s commitment to public safety, the Surigao del Sur Police Provincial Office presented five individuals arrested for illegal possession of firearms and explosives during a press briefing on November 25, 2024. The event was presided over by Provincial Governor Hon. Alexander T. Pimentel, who commended the swift and coordinated efforts that led to the arrests.
The suspects, identified by their aliases “Log,” 38, “Mic,” 48, “Jes,” 52, “Jer,” 41, and “Noa,” 34, are all residents of Nueva Ecija. They were apprehended following a hot pursuit operation conducted on November 14 in Barangay Poblacion, Barobo, Surigao del Sur.
The Operation
The operation was launched after two of the suspects evaded a police checkpoint in Hinatuan town. Authorities spotted a firearm’s muzzle protruding from a tactical bag on a motorcycle, raising suspicion. Law enforcement officers, in coordination with the 67th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army and local officials, tracked the suspects to their rented residence in Barobo.
During the operation, authorities confiscated the following items:
- Two hand grenades
- Two caliber .45 pistols with loaded magazines
- One caliber .30 rifle
- A black Bajaj CT 125 motorcycle used during the suspects’ escape
A criminal complaint for violating Republic Act No. 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, has been filed against the suspects.

Governor Pimentel lauded the police and military personnel involved, stating, “This successful operation highlights the dedication and professionalism of the Police Force of Surigao del Sur. May you remain steadfast in your mission to bring perpetrators to justice and protect our citizens.”
Surigao del Sur Provincial Director PCOL Harry B. We thank the community for their trust and cooperation, which played an essential role in this achievement,” he said.
