Philippine Army and BARMM Leaders Conduct Community-Based Advocacy to Prevent Rido in SGA-BARMM

On October 7-8, 2024, the 34th Infantry Battalion of the 11th Infantry Division of the Philippine Army, in collaboration with the Ministry of Public Order and Safety (MPOS) of the Special Geographic Area (SGA) in BARMM, led a community-based advocacy to prevent Rido (clan feuds). The event was held in Sitio Campo, Nabalawag, and the barangays of Mudseng and Kadayangan in the SGA-BARMM.

The advocacy aimed to promote peace and understanding within the community, addressing the root causes of conflicts and tensions that often lead to Rido. By fostering dialogue and cooperation among the residents, the initiative seeks to build a foundation for long-lasting peace in the area.

The 34th Infantry Battalion expressed their commitment to work closely with local communities to prevent Rido and contribute to a more peaceful future. During the event, 1LT Foren M. Bulauan, the Civil-Military Operations (CMO) Officer, delivered a message emphasizing the importance of preventing violence and resolving conflicts peacefully. He encouraged participants to avoid clashes that could escalate into Rido, highlighting the significance of communication and understanding in resolving disputes before they lead to violence.

Bulauan also shared practical strategies for conflict resolution, including the promotion of dialogue and the use of peaceful mechanisms to settle disputes. One key recommendation was the registration of firearms within barangays, which helps ensure accountability and transparency, thereby contributing to a safer and more secure environment.

This community-based initiative is part of a broader effort to strengthen peace-building efforts in the Bangsamoro region, ensuring that residents are equipped with the knowledge and tools needed to address conflicts without resorting to violence. By promoting understanding and cooperation, both the Philippine Army and BARMM leaders hope to reduce the occurrence of Rido and foster a more harmonious society.
