Agusan del Sur has been recognized as the Most Competitive Province during the 2024 Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index (CMCI) regional awarding ceremony held at Robinsons Place, Butuan City, on October 18, 2024. This prestigious recognition highlights the province’s commitment to driving innovation, sustainable development, and regional competitiveness.
Representing the Provincial Government of Agusan del Sur, Rodel C. Maglunsod, DVM (PGDH-LEDIPO, PEEDO) and Denjer E. Rafael, Economist II (Division Head, PEEDO-ASERBAC), along with Mr. Marson Jan S. Dolendo, Provincial Director of DTI-Agusan del Sur, and Mr. Reonel R. Aniñon, CMCI Focal Person of DTI-Agusan del Sur, proudly received the award. The plaque was presented by Dir. Lilian G. Salonga, Regional Director of the Bureau of Competitive Development, and Ms. Gay A. Tidalgo, CESO IV, Regional Director of DTI-Caraga, during the concluding ceremony of Fiesta Haraya.
The official handover of the award to the Provincial Government took place during the flag-raising ceremony on October 21, 2024. Provincial Administrator For. Ronulfo R. Paler and members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan accepted the plaque on behalf of the province.
Several local government units (LGUs) in Agusan del Sur also earned prestigious awards in various categories:
- Bayugan City: First Place in both the Overall Most Competitive and Overall Most Improved Categories (Component City).
- San Francisco: First Place in the Innovation Pillar and Second Place in the Overall Most Competitive Category (1st – 2nd Class Municipality).
- Veruela: First Place in the Overall Most Improved Category (1st – 2nd Class Municipality).
- Prosperidad: Third Place in the Overall Most Competitive Category (1st – 2nd Class Municipality).
These achievements underscore the province’s dedication to fostering competitiveness and innovation, which contribute to its sustainable growth. Agusan del Sur continues to be a model of excellence, leading the region toward a brighter and more prosperous future.
