Tandag City, Surigao del Sur – The Surigao del Sur Police Provincial Office (SDSPPO) has expressed deep concern over the recent incidents that have occurred in Tandag City and throughout the province. These events, which have raised alarm among the community, highlight the urgent need to address the challenges faced by the youth.
Police Colonel Harry B. Domingo, Provincial Director of SDSPPO, emphasized that the safety of children and the community remains the top priority as investigations continue. “These incidents are not only alarming but serve as a wake-up call to all of us about the challenges we are facing, especially our young ones,” he stated.
Call for Collective Action
Colonel Domingo stressed the importance of collective action involving parents, educators, community leaders, and law enforcement to address the root causes of these incidents. Factors such as peer pressure, lack of guidance, and the growing influence of social media must be considered in preventing further occurrences.
Moving Forward
Increase Parental and Community Involvement: Parents are urged to be vigilant and involved in their children’s lives. “As parents, your guidance and involvement are essential in shaping the choices and behaviors of your children. Today’s environment presents unique challenges, and it is crucial to be aware of the risks that can lead teens down the wrong path,” Domingo said.
Strengthen Prevention Programs: Mentorship and guidance programs for at-risk youth are essential. Schools and local organizations must collaborate to develop more comprehensive education and support systems for the youth.
Enhance Law Enforcement Efforts: The Surigao del Sur Police Force, in partnership with provincial and local governments, will enhance law enforcement efforts through city and barangay force multipliers. While prevention is key, law enforcement will continue to protect both minors and the community at large. A strict implementation of curfew hours for minors (18 years and younger) from 11:00 PM to 4:00 AM will be imposed.
A Call to Responsibility
Colonel Domingo highlighted the vital role of individuals in helping the youth navigate their challenges and make the right decisions. “Together, we can ensure a safer environment for our young ones and guide them towards a bright future. Let us all take responsibility in fostering an environment where our young people are guided toward positive choices and are protected from the dangers that may lead them astray. Together, we can prevent further incidents and build a safer future for our children,” he concluded.
