402Bde and PLGU-AgNor Transform 32 FRs into Peace Advocates through Deradicalization Process

BUTUAN, BANCASI – In a noteworthy accomplishment in sustaining peace in Agusan del Norte, a total of 32 Friends Rescued (FRs) were transformed into peace advocates after completing the 7-Day Deradicalization Process conducted by the 402nd Infantry (Stingers) Brigade, Philippine Army, and the Provincial Local Government Unit of Agusan del Norte. This program was made possible through the efforts of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO), held from September 07 to 13, 2024, at Kagawasan 143, Peace Center, ADN Halfway House, H402Bde, Camp Romualdo C Rubi, Brgy Bancasi, Butuan City.

The week-long activity focused on aiding former members of the Communist-Terrorist Groups (CTGs) to reintegrate into society by addressing their ideological misconceptions and encouraging them to become active peacebuilders within their communities. The program is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to promote inclusive peace under the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP) pursuant to Administrative Order No. 10.

As partners in facilitating the deradicalization process, the 29th Infantry Battalion, 23rd Infantry Battalion, Philippine National Police of Agusan del Norte, and Military Intelligence Company played crucial roles, not only in handling the FRs’ custody but also in ensuring that they are fully equipped with the tools and skills necessary for reintegration.

During the closing ceremony on September 13, 2024, at Kalayaan Hall, H402Bde, each FR received a certificate of completion and attested their participation with great pride. One of the FR graduates, Jaeford Sumugod, shared his heartfelt reflection, “Dako among kalipay kay nahatagan namo og kahayag ang among kaugalingon og na transporma gikan sa ngitngit nga dalan. Og biskan dako among kasaypanan, inyo ming kinasingkasing nga gidawat.” (We are very happy because we have been given light and transformed from a dark path. Despite our significant mistakes, you have wholeheartedly accepted us.)

This initiative marks a significant step towards lasting peace and development in Agusan del Norte, showcasing the power of community and government collaboration in transforming lives and fostering a peaceful society.
