AL-BARKA, Basilan – At approximately 1:00 PM on September 21, 2024, Hon. Mohammad Alcher Nisal flagged down troops and voluntarily surrendered a homemade shotgun without markings or serial numbers. The firearm was handed over by an anonymous constituent from their barangay, who chose to remain unidentified for security reasons.
This action is part of an intensified campaign against loose firearms and ongoing efforts to persuade residents to surrender any loose, unregistered, or defective firearms. The campaign aims to prevent future sanctions under Republic Act 10591, also known as the Comprehensive Law on Firearm and Ammunition, which provides penalties for violations.
The surrendered firearm is currently under the custody of the Al-Barka Municipal Police Station for proper disposition and safekeeping. It will subsequently be turned over to the Provincial Armory and Munitions Unit 4 (PARMU4) of the Basilan Provincial Police Office (PPO).
Authorities continue to encourage the public to cooperate in the campaign to ensure community safety and compliance with the law.
