Coordinating Conference Held for Upcoming Election Filing Period in BARMM

The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) has convened a crucial coordinating conference with key security and election stakeholders to prepare for the upcoming Filing of Certificates of Candidacy (COC). The conference, held in collaboration with the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Philippine National Police (PNP), the Ministry of the Interior and Local Government (MILG) BARMM, and election watchdogs, focused on ensuring the implementation of robust security measures for the election period.

Atty. Mohammad Nabil Mutia, Provincial Election Supervisor for Maguindanao Del Norte, presented the Calendar of Activities for the 2025 Elections during the meeting. The filing period for Certificates of Candidacy for both national and local positions in the Bangsamoro region will be from October 1 to 8, 2024.

Positions to be contested include senators, district representatives, governor, vice-governor, provincial board members, mayors, vice-mayors, and councilors. Candidates are required to submit their Certificate of Nomination (CONA), Certificate of Acceptance of Nomination (CON-CAN), and Affidavit of Qualifications of Nominees.

The conference also outlined the schedule for the nomination of candidates in the BARMM districts. From November 4 to 9, 2024, candidates from the BARMM’s provinces—Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Norte, Basilan, Tawi-Tawi, and SGA—will submit their COCs.

The final day for filing the List of Nominees, Certificate of Acceptance of Nomination with Affidavit of Non-Affinity of Regional Parliamentary Political Parties (RPP) or Coalitions, and the Manifestation of Intent to Participate in the Parliamentary Elections (MIP-PE) is November 9, 2024.

The coordinating conference was led by Atty. Ray Sumalipao, Regional Election Director of COMELEC BARMM. Key attendees included MILG Minister Atty. Sha Elijah Dumama-Alba, 6th Infantry Division Commander BGEN. Antonio Nafarette, PNP PROBAR, election supervisors, and other essential officials.

This meeting was crucial for aligning strategies and ensuring that all parties involved are prepared for a secure and orderly election process in the BARMM.
