In a bid to strengthen security measures ahead of the 2025 National and Local Elections, the Philippine National Police (PNP) officially activated the Special Task Force-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (STF-BARMM) on Monday. This initiative, led by PNP Chief Police General Rommel Francisco D. Marbil, aligns with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive to ensure a peaceful, orderly, and fair election in the region.
The activation ceremony was spearheaded by PLTGEN Bernard M. Banac, Commander of the Area Police Command-Western Mindanao. Various officials and representatives from agencies responsible for election security attended the event, including Atty. Ray F. Sumalipao, Regional Election Director of COMELEC-BARMM; PBGEN Romeo J. Macapaz, Regional Director of PRO-BARMM; COL Ruben G. Aquino, Acting Assistant Division Commander of the 6th Infantry Division of the Philippine Army; and CDR Makaradat L. Uddin of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG). Other representatives from the military and security cluster agencies also participated, signifying their commitment to maintaining peace and order during the elections.
The formation of STF-BARMM follows the Political Candidates Forum and Peace Covenant Signing held on March 19 at the headquarters of the 6th Infantry Division in Awang, Cotabato City. PNP Chief Marbil personally attended the event as part of ongoing efforts to secure the entire BARMM, from the mainland to its island provinces.
These initiatives reflect a strong commitment to ensuring a free and fair election through enhanced coordination among government agencies. Authorities emphasize unity, accountability, and collaboration to guarantee that every voter in BARMM can exercise their right to vote safely and without fear.
PNP Chief Marbil highlighted the significance of this move, stating, “With the strong support of our President, we remain steadfast in our commitment to uphold democracy through safe, fair, and orderly elections. The activation of STF-BARMM is a clear message of our dedication to ensuring a peaceful electoral process where no one should fear casting their vote.”
With the continued support of the national government and the cooperation of BARMM communities, STF-BARMM, alongside COMELEC, the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), and PCG, is fully prepared to safeguard the integrity of the elections in May 2025.
