Malaybalay City, Bukidnon – A former high-ranking leader of the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) voluntarily surrendered to authorities on April 10, 2025, in a significant development toward peace and security efforts in Northern Mindanao.

Identified only by his aliases “Butchoy,” “Botsoy,” “Botenox,” and “Yayang,” the former rebel was once the commanding officer of SPP5, GF6, SRC2, NCMRC and is a resident of Dao, San Fernando, Bukidnon. He is also listed in the Periodic Status Report (PSR) of wanted CTG personalities.

The surrender took place at Camp Capt. Ramon M. Onahon in Barangay 7, Malaybalay City. It was the result of a coordinated operation by multiple law enforcement units, including the 1st Bukidnon Provincial Mobile Force Company (PMFC), Cabanglasan and San Fernando Municipal Police Stations, 1003rd and 1004th Mobile Companies of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion 10 (RMFB10), Malaybalay City Police Station, Bukidnon Provincial Intelligence Unit, DI-MAPIO, FIID PNP-SAF, 1st Special Action Battalion, Office of the Chief of Directorial Staff, CIDG Bukidnon Provincial Field Unit, and Regional Intelligence Unit 10.

Along with his surrender, the former CTG leader turned over a cache of firearms, which included:

  • Two M4 rifles
  • Two M16 rifles
  • One M14 rifle
  • One improvised .50 caliber firearm
  • One .22 rifle
  • Two .45 caliber pistols
  • One shotgun

All surrendered firearms, along with the former rebel, are now under the custody of the 1st Bukidnon PMFC. Authorities have already filed a motion for immediate custody before the prosecutor’s office.

PBGen Jaysen C. De Guzman, Regional Director of Police Regional Office 10 (PRO10), lauded the joint efforts of the operating units, emphasizing the importance of the surrender in the government’s peace initiatives.

“This surrender marks a significant victory in our efforts to end local armed conflict and restore peace in the region,” De Guzman said. “We encourage other members of the CTG to take this step towards reintegration and healing. We assure them that the government is ready to help them start a new life.”

Authorities continue to urge remaining members of armed groups to lay down their arms and participate in the government’s reintegration programs.
