At the heart of SM City Mindpro, vibrant colors and timeless patterns now greet mallgoers as the “Ropa Rampa Cultural Fashion Exhibit” takes center stage, celebrating the rich cultural heritage of Isabela City and the province of Basilan. Launched on April 4 in partnership with the Isabela City Tourism Office, this three-day exhibit shines a spotlight on local artisans, traditional textiles, and the enduring spirit of cultural pride.

Held at the Level 4 Activity Area, the exhibit transforms a retail space into a cultural runway, showcasing the elegance of Tepo and Tennun—two traditional woven materials that speak volumes about the artistry and identity of the Sama and Yakan peoples.

More than just fabric, Tepo and Tennun are storytellers—woven by skilled hands, passed down through generations. Through the exhibit, these textiles have been reimagined into contemporary fashion pieces, seamlessly blending indigenous craftsmanship with modern design. The result is a powerful expression of culture in motion.

The launch event gathered esteemed guests from various sectors, including Isabela City Mayor Hon. Sitti Djalia Turabin-Hataman, Tourism Officer Claudio Ramos II, and key representatives from DTI, PIA, and neighboring Zamboanga City. Welcoming them were SM City Mindpro Mall Manager Aileen Ann Villa-Enriquez and Assistant Mall Manager Engr. Rommel Bellen, who emphasized the mall’s commitment to promoting cultural heritage through meaningful events.

One of the highlights was a mini fashion show where models brought the woven creations to life. Dressed in striking ensembles that paired traditional patterns with sleek silhouettes, the models captivated the audience and breathed new life into centuries-old weaving traditions.

Mayor Turabin-Hataman, in her message, underscored the importance of initiatives like Ropa Rampa, calling it a vital platform for local communities to showcase their artistry. “Seeing our culture at the forefront of events like this reminds us of who we are and what we can offer to the world,” she said.

Mall Manager Villa-Enriquez echoed the sentiment, saying, “This exhibit is more than a showcase of local fashion—it’s a platform for cultural pride and community empowerment. Through Ropa Rampa, we hope to support local artisans and promote the beauty of the region’s diverse culture.”

The Ropa Rampa Cultural Fashion Exhibit is open to the public until April 6, from 10AM to 9PM. Visitors are encouraged to explore the exhibit, admire the creativity of local weavers, and immerse themselves in the stories that each thread carries.

In a world dominated by fast fashion, Ropa Rampa is a refreshing reminder that heritage and identity never go out of style. Through every weave and pattern, it tells a story of resilience, creativity, and pride—woven not just into fabric, but into the very soul of the community.
