Davao City has reached a significant milestone in tourism, recording an impressive 3.7 million tourist arrivals from 2022 to 2024. The steady increase in visitors underscores the city’s growing appeal as a prime travel destination in the Philippines.
A breakdown of the yearly figures highlights this upward trend: more than 850,000 tourists visited in 2022, increasing to 1.2 million in 2023, and nearly 1.8 million in 2024. This remarkable growth reflects the city’s continuous efforts to enhance its tourism sector.
A key factor in attracting tourists is the city’s vibrant cultural and festive celebrations. Events such as Araw ng Dabaw, Duaw Dabaw, Kadayawan Festival, and Pasko Fiesta showcase Davao’s rich heritage and dynamic spirit, drawing both local and international visitors.
The City Government of Davao, through the City Tourism Operations Office (CTOO), has also played a crucial role in boosting the city’s tourism profile. Strategic initiatives, particularly in positioning Davao as a hub for Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE), have contributed to the city’s growing appeal. This effort was further strengthened during a town hall meeting on February 28, where stakeholders convened to discuss MICE incentives, industry terminology, and strategies to align with emerging market trends.
The surge in tourist arrivals has significantly benefitted the local economy, providing increased opportunities for businesses and entrepreneurs. In line with sustaining this growth, Davao City plans to expand its eco-tourism offerings, particularly in the scenic areas of Marilog and Paquibato. These initiatives aim to promote sustainable tourism while enhancing the city’s reputation as a nature-rich destination.
With these developments in place, the CTOO remains optimistic about reaching its target of 2.5 million visitors this year, ensuring that Davao City continues to be a top destination for culture, business, and adventure.
