Davao Oriental—A total of 762 students from public and private colleges across the province expressed their gratitude after receiving financial assistance from the Provincial Government under the “Ang ESKAPU” (Asosasyon ng Karapat-dapat Purihin) program. This initiative is part of Governor Niño Uy’s flagship educational program, “Ang Edukasyon ang Solusyon.”
The financial aid distribution, held on March 24, 2025, at the Provincial Capitol, was led by Board Member Stephen Paul Uy, representing Governor Uy, along with Public Employment Service Office (PESO) Manager Restie Aguilon. The provincial government allocated a total of P3,810,000.00 for the ESKAPU educational assistance program, with each student receiving P5,000.00. Beneficiaries came from 11 towns and cities in the province.
“This is not a mere act of goodwill; it is the responsibility of our provincial officials to serve everyone. We do not choose recipients as long as it is within the capacity of our Provincial Government. That is why we have the ‘Ang Edukasyon ang Solusyon’ program. The administration of Governor Uy is committed to continuously supporting the youth,” said Board Member Uy in his message to the beneficiaries.
According to PESO Manager Aguilon, due to the province operating under a reenacted budget, only a limited number of additional slots were available for the program. The PESO office strictly adhered to its documentation requirements, setting a deadline of March 11 for submissions. This semester, 108 new students have joined the association and will continue to receive support until they graduate, provided they meet the academic requirements and maintain passing grades.
The ‘Ang ESKAPU’ Program
Implemented through PESO Davao Oriental, the “Ang ESKAPU” program plays a vital role in the comprehensive “Ang Edukasyon ang Solusyon” initiative of Governor Uy. It serves as a sustained support system for students throughout their academic journey until graduation.
The program began during Governor Uy’s tenure as Vice Governor, benefiting thousands of students who successfully completed their education. Since assuming office as Governor in 2023, he has further expanded and strengthened the program, transforming it into an association that provides financial aid and opportunities for students facing economic hardships.
Governor Uy envisions the association extending beyond financial assistance, incorporating a holistic approach to student development. Future plans include outreach programs, skills training, talent development activities, participation in environmental conservation efforts, and other initiatives aimed at enhancing students’ knowledge and abilities.
Through “Ang ESKAPU,” the provincial government remains steadfast in its commitment to empowering students, helping them achieve their dreams, and fostering a brighter future for the youth of Davao Oriental.
