Midsayap, Cotabato – March 21, 2025 – The 34th Infantry (RELIABLE) Battalion, under the command of BGEN Ricky P. Bunayog PA, facilitated the voluntary turnover of loose firearms in coordination with the Philippine National Police (PNP) Maguindanao del Norte. The event was held at the headquarters of the 34th Infantry Battalion in Barangay Salunayan, Midsayap, Cotabato, as part of the government’s Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW) Management Program.

The SALW program is a national initiative spearheaded by the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the PNP in partnership with local government units (LGUs). Its primary goal is to reduce the circulation of unlicensed firearms, which pose a serious threat to public safety and national security. By encouraging individuals to voluntarily surrender their loose firearms, the program aims to disarm unauthorized persons, promote a peaceful environment, and prevent the proliferation of illegal weapons.
A key highlight of the event was the involvement of candidates for the upcoming 2025 National and Local Elections (NLE) and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) Parliamentary Election. Mayoral, vice mayoral, and councilor candidates from the municipalities of Nabalawag, Kadayangan, and Pahamuddin actively participated in the initiative, reinforcing the collaborative efforts among the military, police, and local leaders.
In his address, BGEN Bunayog commended the unwavering support of the LGUs in ensuring the success of the program. He emphasized that the voluntary surrender of unlicensed firearms significantly contributes to maintaining peace and order in the region. He also underscored the importance of partnerships between government agencies and local leaders in implementing long-term peace initiatives.
The event marks another step forward in strengthening security and stability in Cotabato, as authorities continue to work towards a safer and more peaceful community.
