In a significant boost to the agricultural sector, the Provincial Government of Davao de Oro, in partnership with the Department of Agriculture (DA) through the DA Regional Field Office XI and the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), has turned over various agricultural interventions to more than 500 farmers and fisherfolk from different farmers’ associations across all municipalities of the province.

The turnover ceremony was held on February 14, 2025, at the Megatent, Provincial Capitol, Nabunturan. The distributed interventions and farm inputs included GM Yellow corn seeds (Syngenta), GM Yellow and White corn seeds (Dekalb/Asian Hybrid), drone vouchers for rice farmers, fingerlings and feeds, motorized bancas, fish cages under the Quick Response Fund (QRF) for the shearline and trough of LPA 2024, garden tools and equipment, molasses and concoctions for organic practitioners, banana seedlings (Cavendish and Lakatan), cacao seedlings, tilapia fingerlings produced from the provincial hatchery, and crop seeds produced by Davao de Oro Farm, including OPV corn seeds, rice seeds, and adlay seeds.

One of the farmer beneficiaries, Hesus Eray, a farmer and Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARP) beneficiary from Compostela, expressed his gratitude, saying, “Nagapasalamat kaayo kami sa atong gobernor, sa national og labi na gyud sa atong DA diin kami naka avail sa tabang, pinaagi atong shearline maong nahatagan kami og semilya nga 7000 kabuok, nanginahanglan gyud mi diin among sagingan giatake usab sa panama disease. Salamat, salamat kayo.”

The program, facilitated by the Provincial Agriculturist’s Office (PAGRO), aimed to empower local farmers and fisherfolk by providing them with essential agricultural inputs and equipment to enhance productivity and sustainability in the sector.

During the event, provincial leaders emphasized the government’s continued support for the agricultural sector, stating that these interventions are part of the broader efforts to strengthen food security and uplift the livelihood of farmers and fisherfolk in Davao de Oro.
