Talusan, Zamboanga Sibugay – A joint intelligence-driven operation led by the Provincial Intelligence Unit, in coordination with the Talusan Municipal Police Station (MPS), 1st Provincial Mobile Force Company (PMFC), 106th Infantry Battalion Alpha Company of the Philippine Army, and the Bureau of Customs (BOC) Pagadian City Office, resulted in the arrest of a male suspect and the seizure of smuggled cigarettes valued at Php 1,719,000.
The operation uncovered 30 master cases of Mavis Red Cigarettes, which were confiscated in compliance with regulations set by the BOC. The suspect and seized items are now under the custody of the Talusan MPS for further legal processing.
PCOL Barnard Danie V. Dasugo, Provincial Director, lauded the coordinated efforts of all involved agencies and reiterated their commitment to combating smuggling in the region.
“Our campaign to curb smuggling remains persistent. I commend the units involved in this successful operation and the community for providing valuable information. Let us continue to collaborate and protect our local economy. Our collective responsibility is critical to the maintenance of peace and order in our province,” PCOL Dasugo stated.
Authorities emphasized that smuggling not only undermines local businesses but also impacts government revenues, which are vital for public services. They continue to encourage the public to report any suspicious activities that may indicate smuggling or other illegal practices.
