In a well-coordinated anti-drug operation conducted by the Datu Odin Sinsuat Municipal Police Station, two drug suspects were apprehended during a buy-bust operation last night at Barangay Brar, Datu Anggal Midtimbang, Maguindanao del Sur. The operation was led by Chief of Police, Police Lieutenant Colonel Samuel Asero Roy Subsuban, under the supervision of Police Provincial Director, Police Colonel Joel Estaris.

The suspects were identified as Patrick Sumampeng Bitol, a resident of Barangay Liab, Mamasapano, Maguindanao del Sur, and Rakim Dumamba of Barangay Kiladap, Talitay, Maguindanao del Norte.

According to PLtCol. Subsuban, the suspects had been under surveillance since Sunday due to their alleged involvement in illegal drug activities. When one of the suspects fell for the trap set by an undercover officer posing as a buyer, the operating team swiftly moved in to make the arrest.

However, Dumamba attempted to flee and was shot in the leg by the tracker team to prevent his escape. He was immediately taken to the Cotabato Regional and Medical Center (CRMC) for treatment, while Bitol was detained at the Datu Odin Sinsuat Municipal Police Station.

The authorities confiscated 25 grams of suspected shabu with an estimated street value of PHP 170,000, concealed in a cigarette pack. They also seized a .45 caliber pistol with a magazine and ammunition, as well as a blue Kawasaki Baja 125 motorcycle, among other items.

The two suspects are facing charges for violating Section 5, Article 2 of Republic Act 9165, also known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, and Republic Act 10591 for illegal possession of firearms. Police Investigator PSSg. Benjamin Bedo confirmed that appropriate charges will be filed against the suspects.

Patrick Bitol remains in police custody, while Dumamba is under hospital arrest as investigations continue. This successful operation reflects the commitment of law enforcement agencies in combating illegal drugs in Maguindanao.
