Davao City, December 2, 2024 – The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Regional Office XII destroyed Php 3.4 million worth of illegal drugs, expired regulated medicines, and paraphernalia in a thermal destruction ceremony held at Cosmopolitan Funeral Homes in Davao City.
The destroyed evidence came from 468 cases turned over by various courts with accompanying Court Orders for destruction. Expired regulated medicines from pharmacies and hospitals across Region XII were also included in the disposal process. The activity complies with Republic Act 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002) and Dangerous Drugs Board Regulation No. 1, Series of 2002.
PDEA Regional Director Benjamin Recites III reported that the destroyed items had a total value of Php 3,487,872.946, comprising:
- 274.1023 grams of shabu worth Php 1,863,895.64,
- 6,979.3538 grams of marijuana worth Php 837,522.456, and
- Assorted expired regulated medicines valued at Php 786,454.85.
The ceremony was led by PDEA Regional Office XI and featured Hon. Rowena M. Apao-Adlawan, Executive Judge of Davao City, as Guest of Honor and Speaker. Representatives from various agencies and required witnesses as mandated by law also attended the event.
In addition to PDEA RO XII’s efforts, PDEA Regional Office XI destroyed Php 16.1 million worth of illegal drugs during the same activity, showcasing a united front in the campaign against illicit substances.
The thermal destruction method ensures the complete and environmentally safe disposal of dangerous drugs and regulated medicines, underscoring the government’s commitment to combating illegal drug activities and promoting public health and safety.
PDEA reiterated its dedication to sustaining its anti-drug operations and collaborating with stakeholders to ensure the effective enforcement of drug control laws.
