PARANG, Maguindanao del Norte — Police arrested two individuals and confiscated suspected smuggled cigarettes worth ₱531,408 during a checkpoint operation in Parang, Maguindanao del Norte, on November 6, as authorities intensified efforts to curb the illegal transportation of tobacco products in the region.

Personnel of the Parang Municipal Police Station, together with the Tactical Support Company of the 1401st Maneuver Company, Regional Mobile Force Battalion 14, intercepted the suspects at the Nituan Sub-compact Checkpoint in Barangay Nituan.
The operation led to the seizure of 12 master cases of suspected smuggled cigarettes, with an estimated market value of ₱531,408. Police also confiscated the cargo vehicle allegedly used to transport the undocumented tobacco products.
The two Filipino adults were arrested and brought to the custody of the Parang Municipal Police Station for documentation and booking procedures. The confiscated cigarettes and other evidence are expected to be turned over to the Bureau of Customs for appropriate action.
The checkpoint operation underscores the role of local police units and mobile force personnel in monitoring major transportation routes that may be used to move contraband goods into local markets.
Authorities have yet to disclose the identities of the arrested individuals or provide further details about the origin and intended destination of the seized cigarettes.
The Philippine National Police said the operation forms part of its continuing campaign against smuggling and other illicit activities, particularly efforts to prevent the circulation of untaxed and illegally transported products that can undermine legitimate businesses and government revenue.
The PNP has reiterated its commitment to strengthening enforcement operations against the illegal movement and distribution of contraband goods in coordination with other government agencies, including the Bureau of Customs.
