Surigao City, Surigao del Norte – The Department of Agriculture (DA) Philippines, through its Agriculture and Fisheries Information Division (DA-AFID), concluded the final leg of the 2024 DA Information Caravan today in Surigao City, Caraga Region.
Under the theme “Masaganang Agrikultura Tungo sa Bagong Pilipinas” (Prosperous Agriculture Towards a New Philippines), the event gathered 500 farmers and fisherfolk from Surigao del Norte to equip them with knowledge and strategies for maximizing various DA programs and projects.
Governor Lyndon S. Barbers lauded the DA for its grassroots approach, emphasizing its alignment with the province’s 10-point agenda, specifically the productive agriculture program. “Bringing these programs closer to our communities ensures that our farmers and fisherfolk are empowered to boost productivity and enhance food security,” Barbers stated.
Regional Executive Director Arlan M. Mangelen highlighted the importance of the caravan in bridging the information gap between policymakers and farmers. “Through this platform, we aim to expand productive areas and prepare the Caraga Region to meet growing demands, especially with events like the Palarong Pambansa on the horizon,” he said.

The Philippine Information Agency (PIA), represented by Deputy General Adolfo Gutierrez, contributed by holding a Post-SONA forum, where it disseminated updates on DA’s priority programs.
Participants expressed their appreciation for the event’s practical insights and its emphasis on sustainable and inclusive agricultural growth.
The DA Information Caravan’s successful conclusion in Surigao City reflects the Department’s commitment to ensuring that the country’s agriculture sector remains a cornerstone of national development, paving the way for a prosperous Bagong Pilipinas.
