The victim, identified only as alias Mar, 32, married and a resident of Barangay Riverside, was reportedly riding his motorcycle home when he stopped along the road near Puting Bato to remove his raincoat. At that moment, two men aboard a black Honda XRM motorcycle allegedly approached him, with the motorcycle reportedly having no functioning tail light.
According to the report of the Calinan Police Station, the back rider pointed a firearm at the victim and declared a hold-up before taking the ₱50,000 in cash. The suspects reportedly fled toward the Calinan area after the robbery.
Initial accounts described the driver as wearing a helmet, black jacket and black pants, while the back rider was reportedly wearing a bonnet, brown T-shirt and shorts. The victim reportedly went to the Calinan Police Station at around 8:15 p.m. to report the incident. Police have since launched a hot pursuit operation and are conducting follow-up investigations to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.
Investigators are also examining available closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage from the area and nearby establishments to establish the suspects’ movements and help determine their identities. The investigation is ongoing.
The robbery prompted the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) to reinforce patrols and investigative operations amid reports of successive hold-up incidents in the city. DCPO City Director Police Colonel Peter Bauzon Madria said the police would intensify efforts to arrest those responsible.
The measures include increasing police visibility along roads, strengthening investigative operations and improving coordination with communities and other law enforcement agencies. Authorities said these efforts are intended to prevent further criminal incidents and protect residents.
Police have urged the public to remain vigilant and report information that could help investigators identify the suspects. As of the latest available report, no arrest had been confirmed in connection with the robbery.
