DAVAO CITY — Two suspects linked to the robbery of a café along J.P. Laurel Avenue were arrested in a swift hot pursuit operation conducted by police in the early hours of Tuesday, January 21, 2026.


Police identified the suspects as Ricky, 21, and Erning, 42, both residents of Davao City. The arrest took place at around 2 a.m. in Lower Madapo, Bankerohan, following reports of a robbery at a café in Barangay R. Castillo.
According to police, witnesses positively identified the two men as the individuals involved in the hold-up. Acting on the information, responding officers immediately launched a hot pursuit operation that led to the suspects’ apprehension just hours after the crime.
Recovered from the suspects were a yellow Maxima Bajaj tricycle believed to have been used as the getaway vehicle, a .38 caliber revolver loaded with two live rounds, and a sling bag. Authorities said the presence of the firearm indicates that the robbery was carried out under threat of violence.
The suspects are currently detained at the Bajada Police Station, where they are undergoing summary inquest proceedings. Police said appropriate criminal charges, including robbery and illegal possession of firearms, are being readied against them.
Law enforcement officials commended the quick response of officers and the cooperation of witnesses, stressing that prompt reporting and coordinated police action were key to the immediate arrest of the suspects.
