DAVAO CITY, Philippines — Several areas across Mindanao are expected to experience cloudy skies, rain showers and thunderstorms on Thursday, October 1, as the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) continues to influence weather conditions in the region, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

In its regional weather forecast issued by PAGASA’s Mindanao office (MINPRSD), Northern Mindanao, Caraga and Davao Oriental are expected to experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms, with moderate to occasionally heavy rainfall that could trigger flash floods or landslides.
The rest of Mindanao will generally have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms. PAGASA warned that severe thunderstorms could also bring flash floods or landslides in affected areas.
The forecast covers the period from 5:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on October 1, with conditions varying across provinces and regions.
Northern Mindanao and Caraga Face Scattered Rains
Northern Mindanao and Caraga are among the areas forecast to experience cloudy skies with rain showers and thunderstorms throughout the day.
In Bukidnon, temperatures are expected to range from 18°C to 32°C, while Camiguin will experience temperatures of 24°C to 32°C. Lanao del Norte is forecast to have temperatures between 23°C and 32°C, while Misamis Occidental and Misamis Oriental could reach highs of 33°C and 32°C, respectively.
Across Caraga, cloudy skies with rain showers and thunderstorms are expected in Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur and Dinagat Islands.
Temperatures in Agusan del Norte and Agusan del Sur are forecast to range from 23°C to 33°C. Surigao del Norte and Dinagat Islands could experience temperatures between 26°C and 33°C, while Surigao del Sur is expected to have temperatures ranging from 22°C to 32°C.
The possibility of moderate to occasionally heavy rainfall in these areas raises concerns about localized flooding and landslides, particularly in locations vulnerable to prolonged or intense rain.
Davao Region to Experience Rain Showers and Thunderstorms
In the Davao Region, Metro Davao and the provinces of Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur, Davao de Oro and Davao Occidental are forecast to experience partly cloudy to at times cloudy skies, with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.

Davao de Oro is forecast to experience temperatures between 22°C and 32°C, while Davao Occidental could see temperatures ranging from 22°C to 32°C.
Davao Oriental, however, is expected to experience cloudier conditions, with rain showers and thunderstorms. Temperatures in the province are forecast to range from 23°C to 32°C.
PAGASA also indicated that light to moderate winds from the northeast to northwest will prevail over the eastern sections of Mindanao, including areas of the Davao Region, with slight to moderate sea conditions in most affected coastal areas.
Zamboanga Peninsula and SOCCSKSARGEN May See Isolated Thunderstorms
The Zamboanga Peninsula is expected to experience partly cloudy skies to at times cloudy conditions, with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.
Zamboanga City and Isabela City are forecast to have temperatures ranging from 24°C to 34°C. Zamboanga del Norte could experience temperatures between 23°C and 34°C, while Zamboanga del Sur and Zamboanga Sibugay are expected to have temperatures ranging from 23°C to 33°C.

North Cotabato and South Cotabato are forecast to have temperatures between 24°C and 33°C. Sultan Kudarat could experience temperatures ranging from 25°C to 33°C, while Sarangani is expected to have temperatures between 25°C and 32°C.
Light to moderate winds from the south to southeast are expected to prevail across these areas, with slight to moderate seas along the affected coastlines.
BARMM Areas Also Forecast to Experience Rain Showers
Across the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), Cotabato City, Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, Maguindanao del Norte and Maguindanao del Sur are expected to experience partly cloudy to at times cloudy skies, with rain showers or thunderstorms.
Cotabato City is forecast to have temperatures ranging from 23°C to 33°C, while Basilan could experience temperatures between 24°C and 34°C.
Lanao del Sur is expected to have temperatures ranging from 22°C to 32°C. Sulu and Tawi-Tawi are forecast to experience temperatures between 24°C and 34°C.

Coastal Conditions and Public Safety Advisory
PAGASA forecasts light to moderate winds across Mindanao, with wind direction varying by location. The eastern sections of Mindanao are expected to experience winds from the northeast to northwest, while the rest of the region will generally have winds from the south to southeast.
Coastal waters are forecast to have slight to moderate seas, with wave heights of approximately 0.6 to 1.2 meters in the regional outlook.
Despite the generally moderate wind and sea conditions, residents, particularly those in flood-prone and landslide-prone communities, are advised to remain alert to changing weather conditions and localized heavy rainfall.
Motorists and commuters should also exercise caution during thunderstorms, while residents in coastal communities and those engaged in fishing and other maritime activities should monitor local weather advisories and conditions before heading out to sea.
PAGASA emphasized the potential for flash floods and landslides due to moderate to occasionally heavy rains in Northern Mindanao, Caraga and Davao Oriental, as well as severe thunderstorms elsewhere in Mindanao.
The public is encouraged to monitor official PAGASA updates and follow instructions from local disaster risk reduction and management offices, particularly if heavy rainfall develops or conditions deteriorate.
