MABINI, Davao de Oro — Two men reportedly engaged in mining activities were found dead after they were allegedly electrocuted while passing through a stream in Purok 19, Barangay Palale, Mabini, Davao de Oro.
The victims were identified only as alias “Jun-Jun” and Lando, who were reportedly from Talaingod and Montevista, respectively.
According to initial information, the two men were in the area when they allegedly came into contact with energized water in the stream. Their bodies were later found and reportedly carried toward the side of the waterway after they were discovered.
Initial reports indicated that a severed electrical wire may have fallen or extended into the stream, allegedly energizing the water and causing the victims to suffer an electric shock as they passed through the area.
The circumstances surrounding how the electrical wire became disconnected and came into contact with the stream remain unclear.
The incident highlights the serious risks posed by exposed or damaged electrical lines, particularly in remote areas where residents and workers may unknowingly come into contact with energized water or other conductive surfaces.
Authorities are continuing their investigation to establish the exact sequence of events, determine the source of the electrical line, and identify whether safety protocols or other circumstances contributed to the deaths.
