GENERAL SANTOS CITY, Philippines — A 28-year-old Wi-Fi technician died after he was reportedly electrocuted while working on an internet line in Barangay Katangawan, General Santos City, on September 16, 2026.
The victim, identified only by the alias “Arjay,” was a resident of the area and was reportedly carrying out repair work on an internet connection when the incident occurred shortly after 11 a.m.
Based on initial information, Arjay accidentally came into contact with an electrical line while working on the internet cable. The contact reportedly caused him to suffer an electrical shock and collapse.
A co-worker was reportedly shocked when he returned and found Arjay lying in the grassy area, already unconscious and unresponsive.
The victim was immediately brought to a hospital in an attempt to save his life. However, attending medical personnel declared him dead on arrival.
The incident highlights the serious electrical hazards that internet and telecommunications technicians may face when working around overhead cables, particularly in areas where communication lines are installed close to electrical distribution lines.
Authorities and concerned agencies are expected to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident, including how the internet line was positioned in relation to nearby electrical wires and whether appropriate safety measures were in place at the time of the repair.
The death serves as another reminder that repair and installation work involving overhead communication lines can pose potentially fatal risks when electrical infrastructure is nearby.
