DAVAO CITY — A businessman reportedly operating a steel fabrication shop in Puan, Davao City, was shot dead by motorcycle-riding gunmen in a brazen morning attack on Wednesday, August 19, 2026.

The shooting occurred at around 9 a.m. in the vicinity of the victim’s business, identified as Joed Handy Steel Fabrication and Services, located at the corner of Puan.
According to initial information gathered by police, the victim had just arrived at the area and stepped out of his vehicle in front of the shop.
Witnesses told authorities that as the victim moved toward the rear portion of his vehicle, two suspects riding a motorcycle suddenly approached and opened fire.
The victim was reportedly hit in the chest.
The assailants immediately fled the area aboard the motorcycle following the shooting.
The victim was rushed to a hospital in the Bangkal area in an attempt to save his life. However, authorities later confirmed that he was declared dead on arrival at around 9:40 a.m.
Personnel of the Baliok Police Station promptly responded to the incident and began gathering information from witnesses and examining the area as part of the initial investigation.
Police have yet to publicly identify the victim pending further verification and notification procedures.
Authorities are also working to establish the identities of the two motorcycle-riding suspects and determine the circumstances that led to the attack.
As of the latest available information, the motive remains undetermined.
Investigators are expected to review possible surveillance camera footage from establishments and residences in the area, while conducting follow-up operations to trace the suspects’ escape route and determine their identities.
The incident has again raised concern over the continuing threat posed by riding-in-tandem gunmen, particularly in attacks carried out in public or commercial areas.
Police have urged individuals who may have witnessed the shooting or possess relevant information, including possible CCTV recordings, to coordinate with authorities to help investigators identify and apprehend those responsible.
