MALAYBALAY CITY, Bukidnon — Police arrested a 45-year-old man after he was allegedly caught carrying a caliber .45 pistol, seven rounds of ammunition, and a bladed weapon in a public area in Barangay Aglayan, Malaybalay City, Bukidnon, on Monday evening, August 10, 2026.
The suspect, identified only as alias “Mel,” 45, a chainsaw operator and resident of Barangay Aglayan, was arrested by personnel of the Malaybalay City Police Station at around 7 p.m. following information about a man allegedly carrying a firearm in the area.
According to the initial police investigation, officers immediately proceeded to the reported location after receiving information about the armed individual. Upon arrival, they reportedly spotted “Mel” holding what appeared to be a handgun.
Police said the suspect noticed their presence and allegedly tucked the firearm into his waistband.
The officers then asked him to present documents showing that he was legally authorized to possess and carry the firearm. However, police said the suspect failed to produce the required documents.
The situation reportedly escalated when officers attempted to secure the firearm. According to police, the suspect resisted their efforts, resulting in a brief physical confrontation before officers were able to subdue and arrest him.
Recovered from the suspect was a Springfield Armory caliber .45 pistol along with one magazine containing seven rounds of ammunition.
Police also recovered from his sling bag a bladed weapon locally known as a “lugud.”
The seized firearm, ammunition, bladed weapon, and other pieces of evidence were brought to the Malaybalay City Police Station for proper documentation, inventory and further investigation.
Authorities said the suspect is being prepared to face charges in connection with the alleged illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition under Republic Act No. 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, as well as alleged illegal possession of a bladed weapon and resistance and disobedience to a person in authority.
The arrest underscores police efforts to prevent the unauthorized carrying of firearms and other weapons in public places, particularly those that could potentially be used in crimes or disturb public safety.
Authorities are expected to further determine whether the recovered firearm is licensed and registered and whether the suspect has any other pending criminal involvement.
The suspect remains in police custody while the necessary documentation and legal proceedings are being completed.
