ZAMBOANGA CITY — A man was found dead inside his own vehicle at a private cemetery in Barangay Tumaga on Tuesday morning, August 4, prompting authorities to launch an extensive investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding his death.

The victim, identified only by the alias “Lando,” was discovered inside his vehicle at Phase 2 of Forest Lake Memorial Park at around 7:40 a.m. Police said the victim sustained a gunshot wound, which authorities believe caused his death.
Initial reports indicate that responding officers found the victim unresponsive inside the vehicle parked within the cemetery grounds. The scene was immediately secured while investigators awaited the arrival of the Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) to conduct a forensic examination and process evidence.
Although initial information points to an alleged suicide, the Philippine National Police (PNP) emphasized that the case remains under investigation, and authorities are still determining whether any foul play may have been involved.
According to investigators, the victim was a resident of Barangay Sta. Maria.
Last Known Movements
Based on information gathered from the victim’s family driver, “Lando” reportedly began his day by bringing his two children to school before proceeding to Golden Haven Memorial Park, where he visited the grave of his wife, who had passed away in May this year.
After leaving Golden Haven, the victim instructed his driver to proceed to Forest Lake Phase 2. Upon arriving, he allegedly told the driver to park the vehicle along the roadside before asking him to step out, saying he wanted to rest for a while.
Several minutes later, after the driver had already left the immediate area, people nearby reportedly heard two gunshots. Authorities later found the victim lifeless inside the vehicle.
Family Says Victim Had Been Struggling With Grief
The family driver told investigators that the victim had been deeply affected by the recent death of his wife. According to those close to him, he had been visibly grieving and often appeared saddened in the months following her passing.
Police, however, stressed that while these accounts form part of the ongoing investigation, they have not yet made any official conclusion regarding the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Investigators are continuing to gather witness statements, review available evidence, and await the results of the forensic examination to establish the exact cause and manner of death.
Authorities have urged the public to refrain from speculation as the investigation remains ongoing.
