QUEZON, Bukidnon — A 34-year-old woman serving as a manager of a microfinance cooperative was shot and killed by two unidentified gunmen in a brazen daylight attack in Purok 9, Barangay San Jose, Quezon, Bukidnon, on Friday afternoon, July 24, 2026.
The victim was identified by the Quezon Municipal Police Station (MPS) as Jerravic Menguez, manager of One Puhunan Cooperative and a resident of Balangay 9, Poblacion, Quezon, Bukidnon.
According to the initial police investigation, Menguez was riding her Honda XRM-125 motorcycle and was on her way to the town proper when she was tailed and intercepted by two unidentified suspects riding another motorcycle.
Investigators said one of the assailants suddenly opened fire at close range, shooting the victim twice before the suspects fled the scene in an unknown direction.
Responders rushed Menguez to the Quezon Health Infirmary Hospital in a desperate attempt to save her life. However, attending physicians declared her dead on arrival (DOA) due to the severity of her gunshot wounds.
Crime scene investigators recovered two spent shell casings from a .45 caliber firearm, believed to have been used in the fatal attack. The recovered evidence has been submitted for forensic examination as authorities work to identify the gunmen.
Following the shooting, the Quezon MPS immediately activated Oplan Shield and implemented the Containment Ring Plan to seal possible escape routes and facilitate the immediate pursuit of the fleeing suspects.
A hot pursuit operation is now underway as police continue gathering evidence, reviewing possible leads, and interviewing potential witnesses to identify and arrest those responsible.
Authorities have yet to establish the motive behind the killing. Investigators are also verifying reports regarding the specific branch assignment of the victim within the cooperative, including information that she may have been assigned to the Maramag branch.
Police urged anyone with information that could help identify the suspects to coordinate with the nearest police station as the investigation continues.
The fatal ambush adds to the growing number of shooting incidents recorded in parts of Mindanao, prompting renewed calls for stronger law enforcement efforts to bring perpetrators of gun violence to justice.
