MALABANG, Lanao del Sur — A sikad driver was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in a brazen daylight attack on Wednesday morning, June 17, in the municipality of Malabang, Lanao del Sur, further fueling fears among residents over the recent spate of violent incidents in the area.


The victim, identified only by the alias “Omar,” was reportedly driving his sikad along a road in Malabang when two armed men riding a motorcycle suddenly approached him.
According to witnesses, the suspects, believed to be riding in tandem, opened fire on the victim without warning. Omar sustained multiple gunshot wounds as the assailants fled the scene immediately after the attack.
Concerned residents and bystanders quickly rushed to assist the victim and transported him to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment. However, despite efforts to save his life, attending physicians declared him dead on arrival.
Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the motive behind the killing and identify the perpetrators. Investigators are currently reviewing available CCTV footage in the area in hopes of tracing the movements of the suspects before and after the shooting.
Police have yet to disclose whether the attack was related to a personal grudge, criminal activity, or other motives, as the investigation remains ongoing.
The latest killing has heightened anxiety among residents of Malabang, who have expressed growing concern over what they describe as a series of shooting incidents that have occurred in the municipality in recent months.
Many residents are calling for stronger security measures and intensified law enforcement operations to address the rising violence and prevent further loss of life.
Community members have also urged authorities to swiftly solve the case and bring those responsible to justice, stressing the need to restore public confidence and ensure the safety of residents.
As of press time, no arrests have been made, and authorities continue to gather evidence and interview witnesses in connection with the fatal shooting.
