PICONG, Lanao del Sur — A violent confrontation allegedly involving two families in Barangay Maladeg, Picong town, escalated into a gunfight on Friday morning, May 29, prompting an immediate response from local authorities.


According to initial police investigation, the incident occurred at around 10:00 a.m. in Sitio Kalimbayan when a group allegedly associated with the Limano family approached the residence of the Dipatuan family and reportedly opened fire using still unidentified firearms.
The alleged harassment quickly intensified into an exchange of gunfire between the two camps, creating tension and fear among residents in the area. Authorities said the firefight lasted for approximately five to ten minutes before the situation subsided.
Law enforcement personnel immediately responded to the area to prevent further escalation and secure the safety of nearby residents. As of this writing, authorities have not yet released information regarding possible casualties or injuries resulting from the incident.
Investigators are now conducting a deeper probe to determine the identities of all individuals involved and establish the motive behind the confrontation. Authorities are also preparing possible criminal charges against those responsible for the shooting.
Police and military forces are likewise considering the conduct of hot pursuit operations against armed individuals linked to the incident as part of ongoing efforts to maintain peace and order in the municipality.
The latest incident highlights continuing concerns over armed family feuds and localized conflicts in some parts of Lanao del Sur, where authorities continue to strengthen peace and security measures to prevent further violence.
