Authorities are now conducting a thorough investigation into the fatal shooting of an Islamic preacher in Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao del Norte, in a brazen daylight attack that has raised alarm among residents in the area.

The victim was identified as Ustadz Nasrudin Tungan Abubakar, an adult resident of Barangay Makir, Datu Odin Sinsuat. He was shot and killed along the national highway in the said barangay at around 2:30 in the afternoon on Wednesday.
Based on initial police reports and witness accounts, the victim was along the roadside when an unidentified gunman, reportedly riding a motorcycle, suddenly arrived and approached him. Without warning, the suspect allegedly fired at close range several times before fleeing the scene immediately, heading toward an unknown direction.
The shooting occurred along a busy stretch of the National Highway in Datu Odin Sinsuat, a normally active area where residents and motorists were shocked by the sudden violence in broad daylight.
Local witnesses, including barangay residents, described the attack as swift and deliberate. One municipal official, Datu Norodin Abas, said the suspect arrived on a motorcycle and immediately opened fire on the victim at close range before escaping without being identified.
The victim sustained a gunshot wound to the mouth, according to initial findings, causing severe injuries that proved fatal.
Immediately after the incident, concerned residents rushed the wounded preacher to Dinaig District Hospital in an attempt to save his life. However, attending physicians declared him dead on arrival due to the severity of his injuries.
Security forces and investigators quickly responded to the scene and have since launched a follow-up investigation. Authorities are now reviewing possible motives behind the killing, including personal, ideological, or community-related angles, although no conclusive information has been released as of press time.
Police have also begun gathering CCTV footage from nearby establishments along the highway and are interviewing witnesses who may have seen the suspect’s motorcycle or escape route.
As of this writing, the identity of the gunman remains unknown, and no group has claimed responsibility for the attack. Authorities have assured the public that all possible leads are being pursued to resolve the case and bring the perpetrator to justice.
The killing adds to growing concerns over isolated but high-impact violent incidents in parts of Maguindanao del Norte, prompting renewed calls for heightened security and community vigilance, especially in public highways and populated barangays.
