Eleven individuals voluntarily surrendered firearms and explosives to government forces in Lanao del Sur, signaling renewed support for peace and security initiatives in conflict-affected communities in the province.

The surrender took place on May 20 in Barangay Matalin, Malabang, Lanao del Sur through the efforts of joint intelligence operatives under the operational control of the 101st Infantry “Three Red Arrows” Brigade led by Yasser R. Bara Pa, brigade commander.

Authorities said the surrenderers came from the municipalities of Marogong and Lumbatan and turned over a cache of war materiel that included 167 hand grenades, one M14 rifle, two Garand rifles, one carbine rifle, several magazines and clips, and assorted ammunition.

Military officials described the development as a significant accomplishment in the government’s continuing campaign against loose firearms and armed violence in vulnerable communities across Lanao del Sur.

According to the 101st Infantry Brigade, the individuals voluntarily yielded the weapons and explosives as part of their desire to abandon violence and live peacefully with their families and communities.

One of the surrenderers reportedly expressed their intention to help protect the community and contribute to maintaining peace and order in their town. The group also signified willingness to join the Citizen Armed Force Geographical Unit Active Auxiliary (CAFGU Active Auxiliary or CAA) recruitment program, where they hope to become productive citizens while assisting in peacekeeping and community security efforts.

The CAA program serves as a force multiplier for the Armed Forces of the Philippines, particularly in remote and conflict-prone areas, by involving trained civilian volunteers in community defense and security operations.

Brig. Gen. Bara Pa welcomed the surrenderers’ decision to return to the fold of the law and support the government’s peace initiatives.

He commended the individuals for choosing peace over armed struggle and encouraged them to continue becoming partners of the government in sustaining peace, security, and development in their respective communities.

Military officials noted that the voluntary surrender of firearms and explosives reflects increasing cooperation between local residents and security forces amid ongoing peacebuilding efforts in parts of the Bangsamoro region.

The Army also reiterated its commitment to strengthening community engagement, reconciliation programs, and security partnerships aimed at preventing violence and promoting long-term stability in Lanao del Sur and neighboring provinces.
