DIPOLOG CITY — A 48-year-old female nurse is currently recovering in a hospital after she was shot by unidentified motorcycle-riding assailants late Thursday night, May 7, 2026, in Barangay Turno, Dipolog City.

Police authorities said the victim, a former employee of the Zamboanga del Norte Medical Center (ZNMC) and a resident of Barangay Sicayab, was on her way to work at a local hospital when the attack occurred at around 10:30 p.m.
Initial investigation revealed that the victim was walking near a commercial establishment, particularly in front of a hospital in Barangay Turno, when two unidentified men onboard a motorcycle suddenly approached her.
The backrider allegedly opened fire multiple times, hitting the victim in different parts of her body, including the lower abdomen, neck, leg, and back, causing serious injuries.
After the shooting, the suspects immediately fled toward an unknown direction.
Responding police officers quickly arrived at the scene and rushed the victim to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment. Authorities later confirmed that the victim is now in stable condition and continues to receive medical care.
The Dipolog City Police Station immediately launched a hot pursuit and dragnet operation in coordination with other law enforcement units to identify and arrest the perpetrators.
Investigators are also reviewing closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage from nearby establishments to help trace the suspects and determine the sequence of events leading to the attack.
As of this writing, authorities have yet to determine the motive behind the shooting, and it remains unclear whether the gunmen have already been identified or arrested.
Police are urging anyone with information regarding the incident to coordinate with authorities to help expedite the investigation and bring those responsible to justice.
