A 34-year-old man is now fighting for his life after he was shot by his own boardmate in the early hours of May 3 in Purok 1, Barangay Violeta, Malaybalay City.

According to a report from the Philippine National Police, the incident occurred shortly past 1:00 a.m. following a heated altercation between the suspect and his live-in partner. Authorities said the suspect, who was reportedly enraged, forcibly kicked open the victim’s room door.

Without provocation, the suspect allegedly opened fire using a .45 caliber pistol, striking the victim on the left side of his face. The sudden attack left the victim critically wounded.

After the shooting, the suspect fled the scene together with his family, evading immediate arrest. Responding authorities recovered one spent shell casing and one live round from the crime scene, which are now part of the ongoing investigation.

The victim was rushed to Bukidnon Provincial Medical Center, where he remains in critical condition as of this writing.

Initial police investigation points to jealousy as a possible motive behind the shooting, citing the victim’s close relationship with the suspect’s live-in partner.

The Malaybalay City Police Station has launched a manhunt operation to track down and apprehend the suspect, who is now facing serious criminal charges.

Authorities are urging anyone with information regarding the suspect’s whereabouts to immediately coordinate with local police as efforts intensify to bring the perpetrator to justice.
