MALAYBALAY CITY, Bukidnon — A 73-year-old man was shot dead inside his home in Purok 10C, Barangay 1 on Sunday night, November 23, prompting authorities to launch a hot pursuit operation to track down the unidentified gunman.

The victim, identified as Felix Sabuero Sr., a widower and unemployed resident of the area, was eating dinner when the suspect entered his home and shot him twice—once in the right chest and once in the right side of his back. The attack occurred at around 8:00 p.m.

Neighbors reported hearing two gunshots, which alerted them to the incident. Responders from the Malaybalay Emergency Unit rushed Sabuero to the Bukidnon Provincial Medical Center, but he was declared dead on arrival due to the severity of his wounds.

Initial police investigation revealed that Sabuero was shot for the second time while already seated and eating, indicating a deliberate and targeted attack. He was still conscious when authorities arrived but struggled to speak because of the intense pain from his gunshot wounds.

At the crime scene, investigators recovered two spent shells believed to be from a .45-caliber pistol.

Personnel of the Malaybalay City Police Station have since set up checkpoints and initiated a hot pursuit operation to identify and arrest the suspect. The victim’s family, including his son who rushed to the crime scene, has declined to issue any statement as of this time.

Authorities continue to investigate the motive behind the killing.
