PAGLAT, Maguindanao del Sur — Fear and tension gripped a quiet community past midnight after an explosion believed to have been caused by an M79 grenade launcher was reported in Poblacion Paglat, alarming residents and raising fresh concerns over security in the area.


According to initial accounts from residents, the incident occurred shortly after 12:00 a.m., when a loud blast shattered the stillness of the night. Witnesses claimed the explosion was caused by a projectile fired from an M79, a type of grenade launcher often used in armed conflicts.
Terrified civilians said the force of the blast reverberated across nearby homes, with some fearing for their safety amid the uncertainty of the attack. “The sound was extremely loud. People panicked because we didn’t know where it came from or who the target was,” one resident said.
Initial information indicated that two unidentified male suspects were allegedly seen positioned behind the Paglat Central Elementary School prior to the explosion. After the blast, the suspects reportedly fled the scene onboard a Bajaj 125 motorcycle, heading in an unknown direction.
