TANGUB CITY, Misamis Occidental — Authorities have launched an intensified investigation following the fatal shooting of a 43-year-old businessman in a brazen riding-in-tandem attack on the evening of April 6, 2026, in Barangay Caniangan.

The victim was identified as Gil Enomar Casaclang Jr., a married resident of Purok 5, Barangay Bintana in this city.

Initial reports from the Tangub City Police Station revealed that Casaclang was traveling on a motorcycle with his wife from Barangay San Vicente en route to Barangay IV at around 7:40 p.m. when they were suddenly tailed by two unidentified assailants riding a black Kawasaki/Bajaj motorcycle.

Upon reaching Purok 4 in Barangay Caniangan, the suspects closed in and opened fire, hitting the victim multiple times. The attack caused Casaclang to lose control of his motorcycle, eventually crashing along the roadside.

Responders rushed the victim to the Arturo M. S. Osmundo District Hospital (AMOSDH), but he was declared dead on arrival. Medical examination showed that he sustained three gunshot wounds—one in the right chest, another in the left arm, and a fatal shot at the back of the head.

Investigators recovered four empty shells from a .45 caliber firearm at the crime scene, indicating the use of a high-powered handgun in the execution-style killing.

Police immediately launched a hot pursuit operation led by the Quick Response Team under Police Lieutenant Ruben Agua Baculi, intelligence and investigation officer, with overall supervision from Police Lieutenant Colonel James Magaro Daleon, officer-in-charge of the Tangub City Police Station.

Authorities are currently pursuing leads to identify and apprehend the suspects, who fled the scene shortly after the attack. Investigators are also looking into possible motives behind the killing, including business-related angles and personal conflicts.

The incident adds to growing concerns over riding-in-tandem shootings in parts of Mindanao, prompting renewed calls for stricter enforcement and community vigilance.

Police urged anyone with information that could help in the investigation to come forward as efforts continue to bring the perpetrators to justice.
