VALENCIA CITY, Bukidnon — A 53-year-old man was shot in the leg by a police officer after he allegedly attacked both a civilian and responding police personnel in an incident that unfolded around 10:00 a.m. on March 11, 2026, at Crossing Dabong-Dabong in Barangay Mailag, Valencia City.

Authorities identified the suspect only as “Karding,” 53, who sustained a gunshot wound to his right leg after allegedly charging at a police officer during the response.

According to initial police reports, the victim, identified as “Fredo,” 58, was seated in his sidecar when the suspect suddenly approached him and, without apparent provocation, attempted to stab him using an improvised spear.

Fredo managed to evade the attack, but still sustained minor injuries on his left hand during the encounter.

Police officers assigned to a nearby static post immediately responded after witnessing the commotion. Responding officers attempted to pacify the suspect and repeatedly ordered him to drop his weapon.

However, the suspect reportedly ignored the warnings and instead attempted to attack the responding officers.

One of the officers, identified as “Ramil,” tried to distance himself from the suspect as the latter advanced aggressively. When the suspect continued to pose an imminent threat despite several warnings, the officer fired his service firearm, hitting the suspect in the right leg to neutralize him.

Police later recovered from the suspect an improvised spear believed to have been used in the attack, as well as a knife with a sheath.

Both the victim and the suspect were immediately transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. Authorities said both individuals are now in stable condition.

The incident remains under investigation as police seek to determine the motive behind the sudden attack. Officers also emphasized that the use of force was employed only after repeated attempts to de-escalate the situation failed.
