VALENCIA CITY, Bukidnon — An 18-year-old woman is recovering in the hospital after she was repeatedly stabbed by her minor neighbor while sleeping inside her home in Sitio Buyog, Barangay Banlag, late Friday night, May 9.

According to the Valencia City Police Station, the shocking attack happened at around 11 p.m. when the suspect, a minor, allegedly entered the victim’s bedroom and suddenly attacked her with a bladed weapon while she was asleep.
Police said the victim sustained multiple stab wounds in different parts of her body. Despite her injuries, she managed to fight back and call for help, forcing the suspect to flee from the scene.
The victim was immediately rushed to a hospital where she continues to receive medical treatment. Authorities said she is now in stable condition.
Investigators are still determining the motive behind the attack, which has alarmed residents in the community due to the young age of the suspect and the violent nature of the incident.
In a significant development, the suspect’s own parents voluntarily surrendered the minor to barangay authorities on May 10 before the child was formally turned over to the police.
The minor is now under the custody of the City Social Welfare and Development Office for proper intervention and processing in accordance with laws concerning Children in Conflict with the Law (CICL).
Authorities emphasized that while the case is being investigated, the rights and welfare of the minor will also be protected under existing juvenile justice laws.
The incident has sparked concern among residents over youth violence and community safety, especially after reports revealed that the victim was attacked inside what should have been the safety of her own home while asleep.
Police continue to conduct a deeper investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the stabbing and determine whether charges will be formally filed against the minor suspect.
