A 21-year-old nursing student from General Santos City has died under circumstances that are now being investigated by authorities, following allegations that she may have been given an illegal drug by individuals close to her.

However, authorities emphasized that all claims circulating on social media remain allegations at this time, and that the incident is still under investigation, with no findings or charges yet confirmed.
Mother recounts daughter’s condition
According to the student’s mother, her daughter—who was studying at General Santos Doctors’ Medical School Foundation, Inc.—was undergoing her on-the-job training (OJT) in Davao City from February 7 to 21, 2026.
The mother said the OJT was not completed after her daughter began experiencing alarming symptoms, including seizures, hallucinations, and behavior suggesting she was not fully in control of herself.
On February 15, the student was reportedly brought home by her boyfriend, identified as Adrian, along with the boyfriend’s mother.
When the student eventually returned to her family’s residence, the mother said the young woman appeared extremely distressed and repeatedly said she was afraid. She also allegedly mentioned the word “ecstasy” and reportedly mentioned the name of her boyfriend while speaking.
The mother also recalled receiving a distressing phone call from her daughter on February 15 while she was in Manila.
During the call, the student reportedly pleaded with her mother to return home and take her away.
“Please uwi ka na, kunin mo na ako dito. Ayoko na dito,” the student reportedly told her mother.
Case brought to authorities
Because of the circumstances surrounding the student’s condition and eventual death, the family has already sought the assistance of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to examine the case.
Authorities stressed that the alleged involvement of ecstasy or any individual has not yet been proven, and investigators are still gathering evidence to determine the true cause of the student’s medical condition and death.
Officials also cautioned the public against making premature conclusions while the investigation is ongoing.
Reminder against speculation
The case has sparked intense discussions online, with some posts urging the public to avoid spreading unverified information.
One message shared by a friend of those involved reminded netizens that evidence—not rumors—should determine the truth.
“Truth stands on evidence, not on rumors. Words can accuse, but only evidence can prove,” the post stated, while also urging people not to jump to conclusions and to avoid accusing anyone without proof.
The post also called for prayers for the victim, her grieving family, and those affected by the situation.
What is ecstasy?
Ecstasy, also known as MDMA, is an illegal drug known for producing feelings of euphoria, increased sociability, and heightened energy.
However, health experts warn that the substance can be dangerous and potentially life-threatening, as it can damage the brain and heart, trigger severe reactions, and in some cases lead to addiction or serious medical complications.
Investigation ongoing
As of this writing, no official conclusion has been released regarding the cause of the student’s death.
Authorities reiterated that the case remains under active investigation, and the public is urged to wait for verified findings from investigators before drawing conclusions.
