SIASI, Sulu — A swift joint response by troops of the Philippine Army and personnel of the Philippine National Police resulted in the arrest of a shooting suspect following a law enforcement support operation on March 6, 2026, in Barangay Poblacion in Siasi, Sulu.

Authorities reported that soldiers from the 104th Infantry Battalion (104IB), operating under the 1102nd Infantry Brigade, immediately responded after receiving reports of a shooting incident involving a .45 caliber pistol in the area. The troops quickly coordinated with officers from the Siasi Municipal Police Station to track down the suspect.

The joint team was able to promptly locate and apprehend the suspect shortly after the incident, preventing any further escalation and ensuring the safety of residents in the community.

Meanwhile, the victim of the shooting was rushed for medical attention but was later declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.

Lt. Col. Roy R. Dalumpines, commanding officer of the 104IB, said the rapid coordination between the military and police played a crucial role in containing the situation and preventing additional harm.

“The immediate response of our troops together with the police helped secure the area and ensured that the suspect was quickly brought into custody,” Dalumpines said.

The suspect is currently under police custody and will face appropriate legal proceedings.

Local officials also condemned the violent incident while praising the swift response of the security forces.

Ben-Sayeed Muksan, municipal mayor of Siasi, denounced the shooting and commended the coordinated efforts of the Army and police in restoring order.

“This incident is deeply concerning, but the quick action of our security forces shows the strength of our coordination in addressing criminal activities and protecting our people,” Muksan said.

For his part, Alaric Avelino P. Delos Santos, commander of the 1102nd Infantry Brigade, emphasized that sustained collaboration between the military and police remains essential in maintaining peace and order across the province of Sulu.

Meanwhile, Leonardo I. Peña, commander of Joint Task Force Orion and the 11th Infantry Division, reaffirmed the military’s continued support to law enforcement agencies in ensuring public safety and upholding the rule of law.

“The 11th Infantry Division remains steadfast in assisting partner agencies to safeguard communities and sustain peace and security gains throughout the province,” Peña said.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting as legal proceedings against the suspect move forward.
