TALIPAO, Sulu — Authorities arrested three individuals and confiscated four illegal high-powered firearms during a joint security operation in Barangay Bagsak, Talipao, on Saturday, marking a significant development in the municipality’s intensified enforcement of its Gun-Free and Peace-Centered Community Ordinance.

The suspects are allegedly linked to a fatal shooting incident that occurred in September 2025 in Barangay Bilaan, Talipao, according to military authorities.

The operation was carried out through the combined efforts of the 1103rd Infantry (Kalis) Brigade under the 11th Infantry Division of the Philippine Army and the 41st Infantry (Partner for Peace) Battalion. The troops worked in close coordination with the Philippine National Police–Talipao, the Local Government Unit of Talipao, and members of the local community.

Authorities said the suspects were apprehended during the operation after intelligence monitoring and community reports pointed to their alleged involvement in the earlier shooting incident. Four high-powered firearms were also seized from the suspects during the arrest.

The recovered weapons are currently under the custody of authorities for proper documentation and legal disposition.

Military officials said the arrests underscore the effectiveness of Talipao’s Gun-Free and Peace-Centered Community Ordinance, which aims to curb gun-related violence and promote public safety through strict regulation of firearms.

They emphasized that the active participation of the community played a critical role in the operation, particularly through vigilance in monitoring suspicious activities and promptly reporting them to authorities.

“The cooperation of the residents significantly contributed to the swift response and eventual arrest of the suspects,” military officials said.

Security officials also commended the residents of Talipao for their continued support in maintaining peace and order in the municipality.

They stressed that peace and security are shared responsibilities among the security forces, the local government, and the community.

The joint effort among the military, police, and local officials reflects a unified stand against violence and the illegal possession and carrying of firearms, officials added.

The 1103rd Infantry (Kalis) Brigade and the 41st Infantry Battalion reaffirmed their commitment to sustaining peace initiatives and strengthening partnerships with local stakeholders to ensure that Talipao remains a safe and secure community for its residents.

Authorities said further investigations are ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the seized firearms and the suspects’ alleged involvement in the September 2025 shooting incident.
