DON VICTORIANO CHIONGBIAN, MISAMIS OCCIDENTAL — Four members of the Philippine National Police (PNP) and one employee of the Provincial Tourism Office were killed after their patrol vehicle plunged into a deep ravine in Barangay Napangan, Don Victoriano Chiongbian, Misamis Occidental, on Friday noon, February 13, 2026.

The victims were identified as PSSg Vilcon Tuyan Macabugto, Pat. Neljie Arsula Marban, Pat. Rudilyn Ruiz Pacut, and Pat. Louel Geraga Cordova. Also killed in the tragic accident was Fortich Cristine, an employee of the Provincial Tourism Office who was part of the convoy.

Meanwhile, another police officer, identified as Strellore Rodni, sustained injuries, including fractured ribs, and is currently receiving treatment at a hospital in Ozamis City. Other injured passengers were rushed to nearby medical facilities and are now reported to be in stable condition.

On Official Duty

Initial investigations revealed that the victims were on official duty as part of a security convoy for an event related to Binibining Pilipinas. The group included seven police officers from the 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Company and three personnel from the Provincial Tourism Office.

Authorities said the patrol car was navigating a downhill and winding section of the road when the driver allegedly lost control, causing the vehicle to veer off and fall into a steep ravine. The impact severely damaged the patrol car, leaving little chance for its occupants to escape.

Police investigators are continuing their probe to determine the exact cause of the accident, including possible mechanical issues, road conditions, and other contributing factors.

A Life of Service Cut Short

Colleagues and local officials described the fallen officers as dedicated public servants who wore their uniforms with courage and integrity. They were actively fulfilling their mission to protect and serve when tragedy struck.

“They answered the call of duty without hesitation,” one official said. “They stood at the frontlines so others could live in peace and safety. Their bravery and commitment will never be forgotten.”

The officers were remembered not only for their professionalism but also for their compassion toward the communities they served. Many fellow police personnel, friends, and residents have expressed deep sorrow over the sudden loss of lives.

Community Mourns, Families Grieve

Local government units and the PNP leadership extended their deepest condolences to the bereaved families, assuring them of full assistance and support during this difficult time.

“We mourn with their loved ones,” a police spokesperson said. “We stand with their families and honor the sacrifices they made in the line of duty. Their legacy of service, honor, and love for the nation will live on.”

Prayer vigils and tributes have since been held in several areas to honor the fallen officers and the tourism employee.

Call for Road Safety

Authorities also renewed their call for heightened caution, especially when traveling on mountainous and hazardous roads.

“This tragedy reminds us that safety on the road is everyone’s responsibility,” officials stressed. “Vehicles must be properly maintained, and drivers must remain alert at all times. In an instant, life can be changed forever.”

As of this writing, the investigation into the incident remains ongoing. Police are working closely with relevant agencies to establish the full circumstances surrounding the crash and to prevent similar tragedies in the future.

Amid the grief and loss, the community continues to honor the memory of those who perished—public servants who gave their lives in the line of duty, leaving behind families, colleagues, and a nation grateful for their service.

“Our hearts go out to the families they left behind,” authorities said. “May they find strength and peace in this time of profound sorrow.” 🙏
