ZAMBOANGA CITY — Authorities confiscated more than 600 boxes of assorted imported cigarette brands, believed to be smuggled, during a joint anti-smuggling operation in Logoy Diutay, Barangay Talon-Talon, late Thursday night, January 30, 2026.

The operation, conducted around midnight, led to the arrest of five individuals and the discovery of a large stockpile of alleged smuggled cigarillos stored inside a warehouse in the area.
According to initial reports, the seized cigarettes—estimated to be worth millions of pesos—consisted of various imported brands suspected to have entered the country illegally without proper documentation and payment of taxes.
The raid was carried out through the combined efforts of multiple law enforcement agencies, as part of intensified government operations against the illegal cigarette trade, which continues to undermine revenue collection and fuel organized smuggling activities in parts of Mindanao.
Authorities said the arrested suspects were taken into custody and will face charges related to violations of customs and anti-smuggling laws. The confiscated cigarette boxes were secured and turned over for proper inventory and further investigation.
Law enforcement officials emphasized that operations against cigarette smuggling will be sustained, warning syndicates and warehouse operators that Zamboanga City remains under close monitoring amid ongoing efforts to curb illicit trade.
An in-depth investigation is now underway to identify the source, distribution network, and intended market of the seized contraband.
