EL SALVADOR CITY, Misamis Oriental – Police authorities have ruled out foul play in the death of an 86-year-old Australian national who was found lifeless inside his residence in Barangay Amoros, El Salvador City on January 5, 2026.
The deceased was identified as Michael Clarence, married, and a long-time resident of Zone 5, Barangay Amoros. According to the El Salvador City Police Station (ECPS), they received a report from a police non-commissioned officer informing them of the discovery of a foreign national’s body inside his bedroom.
Responding immediately, the investigator-on-case led by PMSg Limuel E. Tecson, under the direct supervision of PLTCOL Patrick B. Dalangin, Chief of Police, coordinated with the Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) of the El Salvador City Forensic Satellite Office to conduct a thorough investigation.
The SOCO team, headed by PMAJ Romeo A. Adlaon Jr., together with ECPS personnel, proceeded to the scene. The City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) was also called in to assist. Upon assessment, the rescue team confirmed that Clarence showed no signs of life.
In an interview with the victim’s caregiver, identified as Grace, 35, a resident of Molugan, El Salvador City, it was disclosed that Clarence had been suffering from multiple serious medical conditions, including prostate cancer, hypertension, osteoarthritis, obstructive sleep apnea, and had undergone multiple surgeries involving his bladder, kidneys, and spine, as indicated in his Advance Medical Directive.
The caregiver said efforts were made to revive the elderly man when his condition worsened, but he was later found unresponsive at around 4:09 p.m. the same day.
A meticulous examination by SOCO revealed no signs of struggle, physical injuries, or forced entry. The victim’s room was found neat and organized, and his body bore no indications of violence.
Based on the initial findings, authorities concluded that natural causes led to Clarence’s death.
Police said they will continue coordinating with the family and relevant authorities for proper documentation and necessary procedures.
