CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — Shock and condemnation grip residents after two infants were discovered dead in separate barangays over the weekend, prompting urgent calls for justice and accountability.

The first heartbreaking incident was recorded on December 28 in Purok 13, Tabuknay, Barangay Tablon. Villagers were horrified to find a male infant — believed to be around eight months and one day old — floating lifeless near the riverside. The baby bore visible head injuries, according to initial reports from Police Station 10 (Cugman).
Police Staff Sergeant Landemar Jaraula said investigators are now working with barangay officials to identify the mother and determine whether the child was intentionally abandoned or killed before being thrown into the river.
The infant’s remains were temporarily brought to the Barangay Hall before being given a dignified burial at the Tablon Public Cemetery. Residents and local leaders expressed deep anger over the discovery, calling the act “inhumane” and “unforgivable.”
“Walay anghel nga angay tapakon. Whoever did this must face the consequences,” one concerned resident lamented.
Earlier today, another distressing case emerged when a fetus was discovered inside a drainage canal along the Coastal Road in Barangay Lapasan. Personnel from Police Station 3 (Agora) are leading the investigation to determine how the fetus ended up in the area and who may be responsible.
Barangay officials immediately arranged for the fetus’s burial, with Kagawad Joseph “Botoy” Baltazar confirming the remains have been properly laid to rest.
Local organizations, women’s advocates, and community members condemned the disturbing trend of infant abandonment, urging authorities to strengthen support systems for pregnant women in crisis.
“This is not just a crime — this is a tragedy. No child deserves to be discarded like this,” said a community leader.
Police are appealing to the public for any information that could help identify the individuals involved in both cases. Authorities vow to pursue charges once suspects are identified.
As investigations continue, the city mourns — and demands justice — for two innocent lives lost too soon.
