KALILANGAN, Bukidnon — Police forces in Northern Mindanao recorded another significant win in their intensified crackdown on cigarette smuggling after intercepting a vehicle carrying contraband cigarettes valued at ₱320,000 during a checkpoint operation in Barangay Malinao, Kalilangan, Bukidnon on December 23, 2025.
The successful operation was carried out by personnel of the 3rd Platoon, 1004th Maneuver Company of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion 10 (RMFB 10), in close coordination with the Bukidnon Provincial Intelligence Unit and the Kalilangan Municipal Police Station.
Police stopped a Toyota Hilux during a routine checkpoint and subjected it to inspection. Authorities identified the driver as “Adin,” 28, a resident of Wao, Lanao del Sur, accompanied by three helpers — “Jujun,” “Milky,” and “Amid” — all also from Lanao del Sur. (Real names were withheld pending formal charges.)
During inspection, operatives discovered eight (8) cases of cigarettes concealed inside black plastic bags, raising immediate suspicion and confirming the illegal transport of smuggled goods. The discovery prompted the arrest of all four suspects and the seizure of the vehicle used in the operation.
PBGEN CHRISTOPHER N. ABRAHANO, Regional Director of Police Regional Office 10 (PRO-10), commended the operating troops for their vigilance and decisive action, emphasizing the importance of intelligence-driven operations and inter-agency coordination in dismantling smuggling networks.
“This operation reflects the commitment of PRO-10 to protect government revenues and prevent the circulation of illicit goods that undermine legitimate businesses,” Abrahano said.
An on-site inventory and evidence marking were immediately conducted, witnessed by two barangay kagawads, ensuring transparency and adherence to legal procedures. The suspects were also informed of their rights under the Miranda Doctrine.
Authorities confirmed that the seized contraband cigarettes and the Toyota Hilux will be formally turned over to the Bureau of Customs – Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental for proper disposition and the filing of appropriate charges.
Police vowed to further intensify checkpoint operations across Northern Mindanao as part of a sustained campaign against smuggling and other forms of transnational and organized crime.
